The whole field of the occult, of practical spirituality, of ritual magick is exciting, and you want to get started RIGHT AWAY!
But, where do you start?
If you’ve looked into the occult field, or if you’ve even walked down the New Age section of a bookstore, you’ve likely seen that every type of magick is out there, from Faery Folk to Demonic Descent.
How can you find out what type is right for you?
The first thing that you should know is that once you start drawing power into your life – and accessing your own Limitless Godlike Powers, there will be no stopping you!
By this, I mean that you’re most likely going to experiment with and integrate every system of spirituality into your being, so that you have an entire armory to select your weapons from, rather than just one or two methods.

So, the task before you isn’t necessarily, “How do I know which type of magick is right for me,” but is more, “How do I know which type of magick I should START with?”
To get an answer for that, you’ll need to evaluate a few things about yourself:
1. This is the most important: what do you want to change in your life? If you had Limitless Godlike Power, what changes would you make in your life?
2. What is your religious background, and how do you feel about that now?
3. What sort of ritual interests you, excites you, or seems to speak to you at an instinctive level?
4. And, lastly, what type of spiritual or magickal path scares you, offends you, or repulses you?
Answer these honestly. No one is going to see the answers other than yourself.
Now, let’s look at your answers, and hopefully narrow the field down a bit:
If your goals fall on the altruistic side of things, then you may want to start out with White Magick and Angelic work. If your goals are more self-centered, then you should give some thought to Black Magick and Demonic works.
1. Looking at what you want to change in your life, you’re going to be able to see pretty quickly how intense you’ll need to get right off the bat. If you want to attract a lover, get a better job, or produce other sorts of pretty minor changes, then you can start smaller, with something like candle magick, or sympathetic magick.
If your goals are a bit bigger, like being able to quit your job altogether and live off of your magical abilities (which some people definitely do!), or go from a job as a food server to a politician or celebrity, then you’re going to need to get pretty serious pretty quick. You should get ready to buckle down and learn the advanced methods of evocation, instantaneous manifestation, and a LOT of money magick.
You can also look at your goals in a sense of ethical polarity. Are your life goals centered around helping others, or taking power and glory for yourself? Either is fine. I’m not here to judge or to “should” on you... just to help point you in the right direction to achieve your goals!
If your goals fall on the altruistic side of things, then you may want to start out with White Magick and Angelic work. If your goals are more self-centered, then you should give some thought to Black Magick and Demonic works.
Again, I’m not judging you, and if you don’t judge yourself either, then you’ll see a rapid unfolding of your Godlike Powers!
2. If your religious background is centered around Christianity, Judaism, or any other mainstream religion, and you maintain close emotional and psychological ties to that faith, then there is no reason to step away from those beliefs.
You can easily mesh your occult practices into these religious beliefs, so that your life flows in harmony.
If you resent the religion of your upbringing, and you wish to break away from it, then you can easily jump straight into the demonic, if you like, or into necromancy, or into magick systems contrary to that religion. This will not only help you develop your Godlike Powers, but will also help purge you of any negative attachments to that religion.
If you weren’t raised in any religion at all, then you can move straight to the next question.
3. Some people are excited by the thought of seeing and communicating with angels. Some people are more “earthy,” and would like to align with the spirits and powers of the elements.
Often, people will be drawn, quite erotically, to the dark and the demonic, more than any other path.
Whatever your interest is, you will do better to embrace it fully than to let it sour inside of you.
When you accept who and what you are, you end a bitter war that you will lose no matter what!
4. If a certain form of magick repulses you or puts you off in any way, there is no reason that you have to run towards it.
Magick is about awakening your own Godlike Powers, and you can’t be Powerful and be afraid at the same time. It is just physiologically impossible.
I do want you to realize also that it works both ways. I mean that as you Become a Living God more and more, you’ll find that less and less things scare you, or repulse you, or make you uncomfortable.
But, when you’re starting out, there’s no reason to that you have to make yourself uncomfortable. Do what you want, what you feel like doing, and Master that thing!
