In nearly all societies, ancient and modern, death has remained one of the greatest taboos.

Cannibalism, necrophilia, necromancy, grave robbing, corpse retrieval, and even spending time in a graveyard after dark are often not only crimes, but are grounds for mental health intervention.

Fear of all things dead and deathly is, of course, misplaced fear of death itself... which is, in turn, fear of the unknown.

The only way to conquer the fear of the unknown is, well, by getting to know it better!

Fear provides information that can be used to prepare for what is coming

I am often asked why I’m not afraid of things that scare most people. Most of the time, this is due to the fact that I can stand before any demon, archfiend, or spirit of a dead person and carry on with the ritual.

Sometimes, though, I’ll have people wonder about my lack of fear when I’m dangling 100 feet in the air on a rope, relying on nothing more than a harness and the strength of my hands to keep me from plummeting to my death.

I have to confess that I’m terrified of heights, I’m insecure about my physical strength, I’m petrified at even the thought of ghosts, and when demons don’t initially appear in pleasant forms it scares the hell out of me.

The difference is, though, that the relationship that I’ve made with fear is not a “Master/Slave” relationship. Fear is providing me with information, which I can use to prepare myself for what is coming.

As soon as you stop letting fear tell you what to do, and instead simply prepare yourself for the experience, and jump in without hesitation, you’ll discover that there is nothing that you can’t do!
