I recently attended a magickal festival hosted by The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The invitation was extended personally by David Griffin, the “Imperator,” or Head of that Order, not only to attend, but also to present a lecture, as well as aritual demonstration.
Within the group of attendees, various paths and lodges were represented, including members of the Golden Dawn and OTO, Initiates of the Order of Nine Angles, several unaffiliated magicians and shamans, and one High Priestess of the Fae Tradition who seemed to have the most interesting things to say, yet refused to clamor over anyone’s voice in order to be heard. Instead, she would offer her wisdom and her experienced discoveries in magick with complete nonchalance, as if just in passing, as if these things are commonplace… which for her, I bet they were.
Vicki Clark, this High Priestess, was in contact with something from another realm or another dimension. That much was obvious. She and I agreed at some point in the night that any attributes of the Fae that she worked with are very similar to the attributes of the entities that I call demons.
They aren’t entirely dark, but they aren’t entirely light either. Like humans, they are in-between, and like humans, they seem to be spiritual free agents rather than bound servants of some divine demiurge.
The lecture that I had prepared was on the use of Fire, Water, and Blood to open, sustain, and stabilize an astral gateway, allowing it to remain open sometimes for years without constant attention, creating a stable bridge between the worlds through it. As part of this lecture, I reported on the practice of using human sacrifice as possibly the most effective and enduring way to keep such a gateway open for up to 18 years.
Remembering that this retreat is being hosted by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the mother of all self-righteous occult lodges, it was no surprise when Imperator David objected to even the academic mention of human sacrifice in any context.
A healthy debate followed. Unlike some might imagine, it was not a duel between the magician in the white robes and the sorcerer in black. Instead, everyone was able to bring their own views and beliefs forward, and we spent a good deal of time hashing out the whole matter of the flawed, human perception of good and evil.
During this group exchange, as we all sat cross-legged on the carpeted floor of the Golden Dawn temple, Vicki demonstrated that her knowledge is derived from real, first hand experience, when she spoke of the Fae and the things that they had taught her about the discernment of spirits.
I Could Tell Vicki Possessed Strong Psychic Intuition...
I learned through observing Vicki that she is able to intuitively connect to other beings, including humans, at a depth that is mind-boggling. Essentially, she is able to perceive what is at the core of most beings that she encounters, and despite all of the fear and dogma that was present, she was not afraid of the spirits that surrounded me, or those that I intended to summon forth that evening.
The specific piece of wisdom that she gave, which I want to share with you, wasn’t about what kinds of spirits to call, or what to call them for, but was about a certain matter of etiquette.
Although spirits exist in what is often called the “astral plane,” they are bound by sets of astral laws just as we are bound to laws like gravity.
And, like us, although they can perform miracles that challenge the whole concept of causal reality, there is still a constant common observation that remains intact, evolving through time and exposure rather than in the twinkling of an eye.
And, like us, they exist alongside other spirits, interacting and communicating in ways that we cannot even comprehend. Whenever any species begins organized, common, and repetitive communication, customs develop, and sometimes these customs have the binding potency of the laws which govern their existence.
Discussing the matter of spirit communication, Vicki said, “You can’t get an answer if you don’t ask a question.”
What she meant was that, in order for a spirit to speak with you, you have to initiate the conversation. She was concisely stating something that I had noticed for years, but had never really defined.
Calling a spirit forth without any solid questions nor with any desire for specific information ensures that the ritual will be quite uneventful.
However, if you have questions prepared, and if you put those questions to the spirit, you might be startled with the flow of communication into your mind through the telepathic powers of the spirit. And, if you quickly take notes about the information that you receive and you continue forward with more questions, you’ll find that spirits are a lot more eager to talk to you than you may have imagined.
Here Is What I Suggest You Do Specifically...
I specifically suggest that you prepare 5 questions to ask the spirit. Have them written down in dark ink so that you can read them by the ritual’s candlelight. Once you have finished the conjurations and you can either feel the presence of the spirit, or you can see its materialized body with your Astral Sight, verify the identity of the spirit by asking its name, and then begin asking your questions.
Although I specifically said to write the questions down and to bring them into the ritual, it’s always best to allow your words during ritual to rise from within you, rather than reciting or reading the word-for-word. But, while you are in the Theta/Gamma Sync, it is easy to forget things, as your brain is no longer in its daily operating pattern. So, having notes that you can glance at if you need to can be a good thing, and is much better than having to abandon the ritual because you can’t remember what you wanted to ask!
If You Engage Them, They'll Engage You Back
So, if you want the spirits to be more talkative to you, then you can make this happen by first engaging them, asking them specific questions, so that you can get specific answers.
